The men’s varsity volleyball team defeated Rancho 25-23 at home on April 4 in the first league match of the season.

Coronado started out strong, earning the first point of the game with a kill from Taylor Jones, senior, and dominating the first set of the night. During the second set, the Cougars used a more defensive strategy with attack shocks from Ryan Garlic, junior, and bumps to secure a victory.

“I’m very proud of my team, and it feels good to take the first win,” Justice Balanay-Flores, senior, said.

The Cougs continued the streak using numerous attacks and assists from Balany-Flores leading to their third win of the night.

During the fourth set, they went head-to-head with a very close game. Cougars used an offensive strategy with powerful spikes from Jones leading to a victory for the night.

“It feels good to win the first league match of the year. The boys played hard, and the other team came out and gave us all they got which made us work for the win, but I’m happy we did,” Coach Johnson said.

The next home game will be next week on April 14 at 6:00 p.m. in the main gym.
