Women’s Golf

In their final nine hole match of the season, women’s varsity golf scored 198 as a team at Boulder City Golf Course. Regionals began Monday, Oct. 9 and go on until Tuesday, Oct. 10.

“The thing I’m looking forward to the most is that regionals is being held at an awesome course, which I’m excited to play. They also changed regionals from a one-day event to a two-day event which I am also super excited for,” Crystle Querol, junior, said.

 

Women’s Soccer

Adding to their undefeated season, women’s varsity soccer beat Liberty 5-0 on Wednesday, Oct. 4. JV beat Liberty 7-0 as well on Wednesday, and the freshman team was also victorious beating the Patriots 6-0 on Thursday, Oct. 5.

“We go over different plays and scenarios that we could use in the games. The practice before a game everyone is focused. From stretching at the beginning of practice to scrimmaging at the end of practice, everyone is dialed in to what they are doing and thinking about the game tocome,” Jennifer Hemphill, sophomore, said.

Varsity and JV will have their next home game against Green Valley on Monday, Oct. 16.


Men’s Soccer

Coronado came out on top winning 4-1 against the SECTA Roadrunners on Friday, Oct. 6.

Senior Grant Smyth scored two goals in the game. Alfredo Diaz, junior, and Noah Velgos, senior, each also scored a goal to solidify the win.

“After being a regional champion, practice has definitely helped us be ready for any situation in a game,” Partick Komanowski, senior, said.

Varsity men’s soccer will play again on Tuesday, Oct. 10 against Silverado.

Cross Country

The cougars ran to success at the 30th annual Huntington Central Park cross country invitational on Friday, Oct. 6 and Saturday, Oct. 7.

Sophomores Tom Dougherty, Eddie Smisson, and Bryce Tondryk, led the varsity boys who took twelfth overall out of 80 teams attending. Dougherty finished first for the boys securing a 16:07 time on a 3.1 mile course. Dougherty, Smissen, Tondryk, Shannon, and Rawlins all broke new times for the top 10 for this course in school history.

Varsity girls took eighth place overall with sophomores Claire Rawlins and Kylee Baird along with junior Caitlin Shannon in the lead. Rawlins finished first for the girls achieving a 19:03 finish.

“It feels really good being able to lead my team to victory during races. All the hard work during practices pays off when I’m able to do amazing things like break into the top 10 times for this race. Now, people will be able to see my name and know how hard I’ve worked for that spot,” Rawlins said.

The JV boys took first out of the 30 teams competing in the race, sophomore Brendan Graves led the team. Graves took sixth in the race finishing at 16:59. The next meet is the Lake Mead Invite on Saturday, Oct. 14.

Women’s and Men’s Tennis

Following their undefeated season, both men’s and women’s varsity tennis qualified for state.

In their first regional match on Tuesday, Oct. 3, the men beat Rancho at home 16-2. Advancing in the tournament, the men easily secured their next win against Liberty 16-2 on Wednesday, Oct. 4.

“The men’s and women’s team has been through a lot these past few seasons; we react to change well, and you can see that through our game play and records,” Scott Hobbs, junior, said.

The women had a regional match at home against Liberty on Wednesday, Oct. 4 achieving yet another win, 16-2.

The teams qualified for regional finals with both going up against the Green Valley Gators. The men ended scoring 12-6, and the women swiftly secured a 15-3 score.

Both teams are advancing to the State Championships on Oct. 21 at Darling Tennis Center.
