Coronado’s freshman and sophomore cross country teams competed on October 6th, 2022 at Desert Breeze Park. The Coronado runners went up against 20 other CCSD schools, some of which includePalo Verde, Centennial, Shadow Ridge, Clark, Secta, Rancho. After Coronado’s routine warmup of dynamic stretching and running pullouts, the runners take to the starting line.

“I think finishing is the best part of a race,” Freshman Ivy Evans said. “While the actual running part doesn’t feel good, being handed the medal is very rewarding.”

Many of Coronado’s cross country runners were able to finish in outstanding times which landed them medals. This prompted the sophomore girls to take the gold and finish in first place and the freshman boys to land in 3rd place. As for the rest of the cross country runners, they were unsuccessful in obtaining an actual team rankings due to the fact that these groups did not have enough runners to be scored as a team; however, many just got individually observed. In order to score as a team, there must be at least 5 runners in that class

“The race went alright for me,” sophomore Miles Rosenkranz said. “I personally didn’t do well, but my teammates did. As a whole, we just don’t have enough sophomores.”

The next race will include all of Coronado cross country and will take place on Tuesday, October 11 at Sonata Park.
