On February 1st, the women’s varsity basketball team won their home game against Foothill Falcons. The game started at 5 pm, and ended around 6:15 pm with the final scoring being 43-27.

The game had students and parents of Coronado High  in yawns due to how fast the Cougars gained the upper hand. By the end of the first quarter, the Cougars were up seven points, the final first quarter score being 16-7.

“It always feels nice starting the month with a win,” said senior, A.J Wick. “It makes the team feel good, and when the team feels good. We play stronger and with confidence.”

The team has coordination on point every game and last night was just another example. The girls were quick and passed when they had the opportunity. This going back and forth left Foothill confused, and led the girls to victory.

“Our team has bonded on and off the court, and when we play I hope people can see that.” said Wick.

It was a good game for Coronado High School. The game ended with three fouls from Coronado, and seven fouls from Foothill. The final score was 43-27. The Cougars will take on Shadow Ridge on February 6, 2023 on their home turf.

The Coronado Cougars (14-9) took the win against the Foothill Falcons (15-8) on Wednesday February 1. The score was close all game with the Cougars coming out on top 75-62.

“The biggest challenge for us last night as a team was to come out in the second half and not let up and stay focused on our goal,” said junior Josiah Cunningham. “We struggle at times with keeping the same intensive energy throughout the course of the whole game so we wanted to make sure we didn’t make that same mistake by taking the lead we had for granted. We came out with the mindset into the second half that the game is 0-0.”

The score was close the entire game. The Cougars started out strong with 18 points in quarter one. They kept that momentum until quarter four when the Foothill Falcons scored 25 points and Coronado scored 21. By the end of the game, the Cougars were still able to come out on top with a final score of 75-62.

“Personally, something I can do to help improve and impact our games is to continue making winning plays on both ends of the floor and be a leader on the court by installing a positive mindset/attitude into everyone’s heads and to just keep progressing forward and getting better as a unit,” said Cunningham. “We all stand for each other we all rock with each other no matter what the circumstances are. At the end of the day, this is a culture and we are a family!!”

Make sure to catch Corondao at Canyon Springs on Friday, February 3rd at 6:30!
