Baseball defeated the Eldorado Sun Devils on Monday, May 5, while battling the wind.

During the bottom of the first inning, with a runner on second, Caden Spilsbury, senior, hit a home run out to center field giving the Cougars a 2-0 lead.

The Sun Devils crushed that lead during the second inning by scoring three runs going into the bottom of the second.

Cougars tied it up during the bottom of the second when two outfielders collided, giving Anthony Olbeiser, sophomore, a chance to run into home to tie up the game.

The wind got the best of the team during the fourth as the ball became hard to track down. Eldorado scored twice taking the lead, 5-3.

The guys came back though in the fifth inning by scoring off of a wild throw, tying it up. Then with a runner on second, Sterling Saltz, junior, hit a single bringing Spilsbury into score, giving the Cougars a 6-5 lead.

They did not keep it for long though, as the Sun Devils tied it back up in the top of the sixth.

With an inning and a half left, the Cougars pulled it together in the bottom of the sixth. A run was scored to break the tie making it 7-6. Jacen Yergensen, junior, hit a triple, bringing home two runs. Then Jackson Coffer, senior, hit a two run homer out to center field causing the Cougs to win the game 11-6.

The Cougars are 6-3 in league, sitting third in the Southeast League and 16-11 overall. Their next game is Wednesday, May 7, at 3:30 p.m. at Foothill.
