With a final score of 42-24, the Cougars lost to the Patriots at home on Friday, Sept. 25.

The two teams fought to score in the first quarter until Donavan Outlaw, senior, ran for a touchdown with almost a minute left in the first quarter. The extra point kick made by Gavin Wale, freshman, struck the left goalpost to leave the Cougars in the lead 6-0 at the end of the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Liberty’s running back, Chad Tebay, junior, ran for an eight yard touchdown leaving the score at 7-6 for the Patriots.

Liberty had the ball after a punt into the endzone for a touchdown. Liberty drove the ball from the 20 yard line down to the 2 yard line, but a penalty moved the ball back to the 18 yard line. The quarterback, Kenyon Oblad, sophomore, threw an 18 yard touchdown pass. The extra point was good to give Liberty the lead 14-6 with 3:47 left in the first half. Liberty scored two more times before the first half ended to give the Patriots the lead 28-6.

On Coronado’s second possession in the third quarter, quarterback Landen Rowland, junior, threw a touchdown pass to Travis Bowman, senior. The Cougars attempted for a two point conversion, but the pass was incomplete leaving the score 28-12.

During the third quarter, Emilio Villareal, senior, was taken away by paramedics, and DJ Davis, senior, walked off the field after being injured, but he came back to play later in the quarter. No one scored third quarter.

Coronado scored a touchdown on a second down from the 3 yard line at the beginning of the fourth quarter. The 2-point conversion was no good making the score 28-18.

On Liberty’s next possession a pass was intercepted by Coronado’s defensive quarterback Ty Silva, senior, and he returned to the 38 yard line. Coronado moved the ball to Liberty’s 21 yard line where Rowland’s pass was intercepted by Ethan Dedeaux, junior, who ran it back for a touchdown extending the Patriot’s lead to 35-18.

Liberty scored once more to extend their lead to 42-18. Coronado scored one last time to end the game 42-24.
