The Coronado Cougars varsity softball team took on the Desert Oasis Diamondbacks on Tues., March 29. The final score of the game was 6-8, with the Cougars winning.

“I’m proud of the way that we bounced back each inning and continued to score,” senior Julia Padilla (#15) said. “We were able to keep our heads up the entire game and we kept good chemistry throughout the game.”

The Cougars kept great energy and chemistry throughout the game. The Cougars were able to pull through two runs in the last inning and win the game with those two runs.

“We really came together as a team and really worked on leaving no runners on base,” senior Emma Koening (#2) said. “I feel like us focusing on that made us win the game.”

Your lady Cougars took on the Faith Lutheran Crusaders later in the week on Sat., April 2. The final score was 1-3, the Cougars taking the loss. Catch them at their next home game on Mon., April 4, as they take on the Basic Wolves at 3:30 p.m..

Men’s Varsity Baseball

By Lorin Alukonis

On Wed., March 30, the men’s varsity baseball team had an away game against the Basic Wolves and lost with a score 4-5. Senior pitcher Noah Wasano led the game and was able to keep the Cougars in the battle.

“We played a really good ballgame yesterday, but unfortunately lost on a walkoff,” senior pitcher and designated hitter Kethan Efron said. “Noah Wasano pitched like a dog, keeping Basics elite hitters guessing and off balance the entire game. I also hit my second home run of the year a 2-run bomb.”

Later in the week, on Fri., April 1, the Cougars had a defeat against the Green Valley Gators in a score of 9-5. In the beginning of the home game, the team was having trouble gaining a lead on their opponents and stayed tied up for a good portion of the match. Due to senior catcher and first baseman Dallin Smith and senior shortstop and second baseman Sebastian Lopez, the boys were able to take an overwhelming lead and take the win of the game.

“The game started off pretty close and stayed that way for a couple of innings, but we kept hitting and eventually got out to a good lead with help from Dallin Smith and Sebastian Lopez,” sophomore pitcher Brigham Bleazard said. “Kethan Efron grinded on the mound to keep us in the game and Zach Dawson came in relief to completely silence the Gators.”

The next men’s baseball game will be an away game on Thurs., April 7, against Las Vegas High School at 3:30 p.m..

Men’s Varsity Volleyball

By Oliver Van Aken

Coronado’s men’s volleyball team played the Green Valley Gators last Tues., March 29, at their home game conference. Although some Cougars harbored a strong defense, such as senior Eoin O’toole (#16) who reached four total blocks, the Gators fought hard and won 3-1. The team’s second game of the week was held at Palo Verde High School on Thurs., March 31 against the Panthers. Although the Cougars tried to come back from their previous game, they lost to Palo Verde 3-0.

“This week was kind of rough, we stubbed our own toes, communication was probably our biggest error,” senior Corey Kaseff (#15) said. “We had a little bit of a lack of confidence but despite having some sickness we still fought hard through our games.”

The next men’s volleyball game is scheduled for Wed., April 6, and will be against Shadow Ridge. The game will be held at Coronado High School and varsity will play at 6 p.m..
