On October 14, Coronado High School’s football team had a home game before the playoffs against Spring Valley. With 11 seconds left on the board, Coronado was in the lead, but the points were close. As the clock ticks down, Coronado holds their defense and wins the game. The final score was 21-19.

“There were a lot of key moments in the game,” senior Jaylon Culbreath said “The 4th quarter in general was just the back and forth action between the 2 teams was very significant. But if I had to pick one moment I’d pick Kunitake’s punt return touchdown.”

The football team spirit was unshakeable from the beginning. Within the first 15 minutes the Cougars had 14 points on the board, and from there only gained more. With a few bumps along the way, Coronado’s football team kept their eyes on the prize and kept their defense and offense strong.

“I feel that having confidence,” senior Silas Segote said “Within my team, to know that any one of the back ups can step up and start and make plays is a big part of my team’s success.”

After injuries and losing some players, the back ups showed up for their team. The players had a good and fierce game. Understanding that they can always rely on each other, and seeing the bond within, definitely played a big role in their win Friday night. Nothing but true rawness from beginning to end. The Cougars season is coming to an end, but regionals are not too far behind. With wins like tonight, ending at 21-19, things are looking good for when the playoffs start for Coronado High.

Playoffs begin the last week of October, starting the 24th. Schools go head to head on the field, and winners move farther within the playoffs. As teams get eliminated, we will be left with two teams. Only one will be crowned true champions.
