On Friday, April 16th the Coronado swim team, both JV and Varsity took a 3-day trip to Walnut, California to compete in the Spring Meet of Champions. This is the biggest meet of the season for Coronado. The Cougars placed 3rd over all.
“I think overall we went into the meet not really knowing each other super well, and we came out very close,” senior Madeleine Herbert said. “It was without a doubt a collective effort between the entire team. Personally, I think we blew it out of the water. Last year we lost a huge class of swimmers so we didn’t really know what we were going to have to do this year, but it turns out we have a truly fantastic group.”
It’s safe to say that this meet really bonded the team as a whole. The team supported each other well throughout the entirety of the meet. Coronado broke several records at this meet, which the team is very proud of.
“The meet in California went so great,” senior Reagen Holmes said. “The entire team was so connected. I was super proud of everyone and extremely happy with the results. I went all my personal best times and got to be a part of two record-breaking relays. It was overall my favorite meet of the season so far and I am so happy I got to experience it one last time. This is definitely my favorite tradition the CHS swim and dive team has.”
This meet has been a tradition for the Coronado Swim and Dive team for many years and the team is exhilarated to compete in the future Walnut meets. The next swim meet will be Saturday April 22nd. The Cougars will take on the Bishop Gorman Gales in this dual meet.
